<title>Cross-Sectional Analysis of Colombian University Students’ Perceptions of Mental Health during the COVID-19 Pandemic: Repercussions on Academic Achievement</title>

<description>Cross-Sectional Analysis of Colombian University Students’ Perceptions of Mental Health during the COVID-19 Pandemic: Repercussions on Academic Achievement
Camacho Villa, María Alejandra; Díaz Marín, Ingrid Johana; Paredes Prada, Erika Tatiana; De la Rosa, Adrian; Niñoz Cruz, Gloria Isabel
Background: During the COVID-19 pandemic, the increase in academic activities at home&#13;
negatively impacted mental health, due to significant levels of stress, anxiety, and depression. We&#13;
investigated the association of depression and anxiety with university students’ academic perfor mance during the COVID-19 lockdown in Bucaramanga, Colombia. Materials and Methods: A&#13;
cross-sectional study was conducted through an online survey during the lockdown, through the&#13;
use of the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS) and the grade-point average. Results:&#13;
1090 females, out of 1957 students, with mean age 22.2 ± 5.3 years, participated in the study. The&#13;
prevalence of low academic performance was higher in men (4.7% p = 0.014). As for mental health,&#13;
2.5% of the students were classified as “definite cases” of anxiety and 8.2% were diagnosed with&#13;
depression. Women with a low academic performance had a greater percentage of being “definite&#13;
cases” (3.8%) of anxiety as compared to men (1.1%). Regarding depression, in men, 12.2% of those&#13;
with low academic performance were “definite cases” (6.9% p &lt; 0.05); in females with low academic&#13;
performance, 10.1% were “definite cases” of depression, according to the Poisson regression analysis.&#13;
The probability of low performance was 100% higher for women identified as “doubtful cases” of&#13;
depression (PR = 2.0; 95% CI: 1.10–5.18, p = 0.03). Conclusions: A positive association between&#13;
the severity of anxiety/depression and lower grades, especially in women, was found. Mental&#13;
health should be a special concern when considering university students, in order to improve their&#13;
academic performance.

<title>Impact of social and physical factors on psychological well-being under covid-19 lockdown in taekwondo athletes: A cross-sectional study</title>

In sports and taekwondo in particular, it is of interest to understand the impact of sociodemographic and physical factors of &#13;
athletes during this period, as well as their impact on psychological health. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between physical &#13;
activity levels, demographic factors, and psychological well-being during the COVID-19 lockdown in Taekwondo athletes. Seventy eight male Taekwondo athletes (35 ± 14.6 years) at national and international levels participated in an online survey during the COVID 19 Lockdown period in September 2020. The factors analyzed included expertise, socioeconomic status, education, and physical ac tivity levels. The main findings of this study indicated that university education level was significantly associated with both well-being &#13;
and lower distress (χ&#13;
2&#13;
 = 7.0; p = 0.03). Similarly, athletes with a moderate level of physical activity showed a significant association &#13;
with their state of well-being (χ&#13;
2&#13;
 = 7.0; p = 0.03) and absence of distress (χ&#13;
2&#13;
 = 10.5; p = 0.00). However, no significant associations &#13;
were found between technical level and age category with well-being or distress. Our findings showed that the lockdown negatively &#13;
affected both total physical activity levels and psychological well-being in Colombian Taekwondo Athletes. A higher educational level &#13;
allows for a greater understanding of the situations presented during the pandemic, and the level of physical activity is a determinant &#13;
of the mental health of athletes.

<title>Low Muscle Mass Is Associated with Poorer Glycemic Control and Higher Oxidative Stress in Older Patients with Type 2 Diabetes</title>

<description>Low Muscle Mass Is Associated with Poorer Glycemic Control and Higher Oxidative Stress in Older Patients with Type 2 Diabetes
Blanca, Alabadi; Civera, Miguel; De la Rosa, Adrian; Martinez Hervas, Sergio; Gomez Cabrera, Mari Carmen; Real, Jose
Body composition changes that occur during aging, such as loss of lean mass, are unfa vorable at metabolic level and they can explain, in part, the appearance of certain age-associated diseases such as type 2 diabetes (T2D). Separately, T2D is associated with an increase in oxidative&#13;
stress (OS) which negatively affects skeletal muscle. Our aim was to study the differences in clinical and nutritional parameters, disease control, and OS in a cohort of older patients with T2D classified according to the amount of lean mass they had. We included 100 adults older than 65 years with T2D. We found that women with low fat-free mass and muscle mass have worse T2D metabolic control. Moreover, the patients with a low percentile of muscle mass present a high value of OS. The study shows that the presence of low lean mass (LM) in the geriatric population diagnosed with T2D is associated with poorer glycemic control and greater OS.

<title>Comparative Analysis Between Electrical Bioimpedance and Manual Body Composition in UTS Students</title>
<link>http://repositorio.uts.edu.co:8080/xmlui/handle/123456789/18754</link>
<description>Comparative Analysis Between Electrical Bioimpedance and Manual Body Composition in UTS Students
Castro Mendez, Wilson; Saavedra Caceres, Juan Carlos; Caro Cely, William Fernando
La composición corporal ha sido interés común al momento de determinar principalmente la masa muscular &#13;
y la masa grasa, para determinar factores de riesgo asociados y a su ve factores de que permitan mejorar el &#13;
rendimiento de la persona, entre otras. De esta forma, la presente investigación llevó a cabo un análisis &#13;
comparativo entre la antropometría y la bioimpedancia eléctrica como métodos indirectos para determinar &#13;
la composición corporal de las personas. Se realizó una investigación descriptiva y con un enfoque &#13;
cuantitativo. La muestra estuvo constituida por 11 hombres y 4 mujeres estudiantes de Tecnología Deportiva &#13;
de las Unidades Tecnológicas de Santander.&#13;
Los resultados permiten evidenciar una alta variabilidad en la valoración del porcentaje de masa grasa y &#13;
porcentaje de masa muscular mediante bioimpedancia eléctrica, obteniendo un coeficiente de variación de &#13;
un 43% para masa grasa y un 20% para masa muscular. Los resultados arrojaron además que existen &#13;
diferencias altamente significativas (p&lt;00,5), entre la valoración del porcentaje de masa muscular y de &#13;
porcentaje de masa grasa, mediante antropometría y bioimpedancia eléctrica lo cual indica que el método &#13;
indirecto más fiable para establecer la composición corporal es la antropometría,
